Why you need to invest in quality trainers

Whether you’re an avid runner, gym fanatic, pro on the tennis court, or new to the game, what you wear affects your performance. We’re not talking about your clothes though – we’re looking at the feet. Finding the right type of shoes can be challenging. Just because one pair is fantastic when on the treadmill doesn’t mean that they will do a good job when cycling. But why is it critical to invest in the right trainers?

Why?

It’s essential you find a quality pair of trainers before starting your exercise journey. You might want to keep the price down, but that’s a surefire way to put your health at risk. A low-quality pair can cause performance issues, like if your ill-fitting shoes have no grip. Or worse. They can cause severe problems, such as damaged Achilles.

Tight-fitting pairs can cause issues like athlete’s foot, as well as hard skin, blisters, and painful corns. These risks can be minimised by investing in the correct footwear. At its worst, it can cause subungual hematoma: this is where the tightness of your shoes causes bruising and even bleeding under the nail. Doesn’t sound fun, does it? Best to avoid the injury, and choose your trainers with caution.

So, what should you look for when buying?

Support

Shoes with padding and plenty of support are essential! Many injuries occur when you repeatedly move about, such as when you’re running and jumping, and your feet hit the ground heavily without protection. Studies suggest that there between 2.4 to 38 injuries per 1,000 hours of running. Don’t settle for a bad pair – make comfort your priority not style. Try your shoes on before taking the tags off. If they aren’t right for you, don’t hesitate to return them.

Flexibility

Can you run, jump, and hop in your trainers? If not, they aren’t the right choice. As well as proper cushioning, your shoes need to be lightweight enough to allow you to move freely. Make sure they fit correctly!

There are so many different types available for varying purposes. If you’re not sure which to buy, be sure to ask for expert advice or talk to your personal trainer about the best option for you.
